In the morning, cruise ships arrive in Charlotte Amalie. As tourists begin to make their way off the ships, the taxis and tourist shuttles appear. Most tourists head for the vender's plaza where the locals offer a variety of Caribbean goods including island clothing, purses, beach towels, hats and more. Next stop for most shoppers is the shopping area with historic buildings and a complex of colonial era streets and alley ways. Signs announce jewelry, diamonds, gemstones, coral jewelry, etc. at great savings as well as cameras, liquor, perfumes, art galleries, Swiss watches ( St Thomas is a duty- free port.) You may see the cocoanut man on one of the narrow streets . He chops a fresh cocoanut into a mug for tourists, then whacks off the top so you can drink the cocoanut milk. Tourist shuttles of all types are everywhere and the sweet spicy aroma of Caribbean restaurants begins to drift through the morning air.
